Overtightening this screw can prevent the fuel from flowing. Likewise, loosening the screw will slow down the RPM. This will cause a high fuel mixture.

3. Adjust the Low-Speed Screw

To adjust the low-speed screw: 

  1. Use a screwdriver to turn the L screw clockwise. Clockwise rotation will decrease the speed, while counterclockwise rotation will increase it.
  2. Then turn the screw counterclockwise until the engine begins to speed up. 
  3. Identify a central setting between the low and high points to tune your carburetor.

4. Adjust the High-Speed Screw

The high-speed screw controls the amount of fuel mixed with the air at high speeds. To adjust it:

  1. Turn the screw clockwise until it is tight.
  2. Then turn it counterclockwise until it rests the carburetor to its default setting.

5. Adjust the Idle Speed Screw

The idle speed screw controls the amount of air that is allowed into the engine when it’s idle. To adjust the idle speed:

  1. Locate the screw and turn it clockwise until the chain spins.
  2. Then slightly turn it counterclockwise to stop the spinning chain. You may need to experiment a bit to find the perfect setting.
